Intake Design

Conventional hydro depends upon the difference in head between a reservoir surface—controlled by a typically massive dam—and a generation point at the base of the dam.  Run of river hydro depends on the natural flow of rivers and steep terrain.  The intake for run of river systems is considerably smaller and typically includes a diversion pond to capture water and exclude sediment and bed load.  The heart of a run of river installation, effective intake design precludes excessive maintenance requirements while suppressing environmental alteration and impact.
